PONCA, Neb. | The largest outdoor expo in the Midwest, the Missouri River Outdoor Expo, marks its ninth year at Ponca State Park on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21 & 22.

This FREE event aims to introduce or rekindle a family's interest in natural resources and outdoor recreation with more than 85 hands-on activities featuring outdoor education, sports and recreation. There is something for everyone to touch, see and do at the Missouri River Outdoor Expo.

Weekend attractions include Inspirational Archer Matt Stutzman, Team Benelli Exhibition Shooter Tim Bradley, Trick Archer Randy Oitker, The Raptor Project with Jonathan & Susan Wood, DockDogs Canine Aquatics Competition, K-9 Fris-B-Crew with Tony Hoard, Cowboy Mounted Shooting, Swanson Cowboyography, Missouri River Heritage Encampment, Toasted Ponies Bluegrasss Band, Bass Tubs of Oklahoma and Lumberjack Sports International.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will debut the 1st Annual Kid’s Cook-off this year at the upcoming Missouri River Outdoor Expo. The cook-off will take place on the first day (Saturday, Sept. 21) of this two day event. It will feature two age divisions – kids age 5-10 years old beginning at 10 a.m. and 11-15 years old at 2 p.m. The youngest age group will be preparing “Gourmet S’mores” and older age division will be preparing “Pie Iron Hot Pockets."

All the food, equipment and other supplies will be provided. Kid’s will be given a variety of ingredients and then will need to rely on their imagination to create their gourmet masterpiece. First, Second and Third prizes will be given in each category and all participants will receive prizes courtesy of the event’s sponsors. The Kid’s Cook-off is being sponsored by Famous Dave’s and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.

Participants can experience kayaking, rock climbing, camping, fishing and bow-fishing, Missouri River boat rides, Dutch oven cooking, wild game processing, camping skills, and more.

In 2012, the Missouri River Outdoor Expo was the proud recipient of the “Excellence in Conservation” award in 2012 from the Midwest Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies.

Last year, more than 52,000 visitors made this the largest outdoor expo in the Midwest. This event is made possible through the support of generous sponsors, educational exhibitors, hundreds of dedicated volunteers and thousands of visitors. Thank you!

The Missouri River Outdoor Expo is located at beautiful Ponca State Park - the eastern gateway to the Missouri National Recreational River.

Guided shuttles run continuously to three locations within the park—Resource & Education Center, Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex & Riverfront.

As always, this fun-filled, family friendly weekend is FREE! Only a valid park permit is required for entry. Permits may be purchased at gate for $5 per vehicle, or $25 for an annual permit good at all NE state parks in 2013. Permits may also be purchased online.
