These are profiles of the king and queen candidates for the Woodbury County fair.
Queen contestants
Andrea Ann Bernard, 17, is the daughter of Jim and Kathy Bernard. She is going to be a senior at Maple Valley – Anthon Oto High School. She is involved in volleyball, drill team, track, student council and FFA. She is a member of the Rock Branch Producers and takes several projects to the fair each year. After graduation, she plans to attend college and major in the area of Fashion Merchandising and Design.
Lauren Elizabeth Eckert, 17, daughter of Paul and Julie Eckert of Sioux City will be a senior this fall at Bishop Heelan High School. She is involved in track, cross country, theatre, choir, and an assortment of school activities. She is an active 4-H’er and loves riding and caring for her horses. Lauren plans to further her education after graduation and is interested in the areas of life sciences, law, biology, and the medical field.
Shelby Perez, 18, is the daughter of Alex and Julie Perez of Moville. In the fall she will be a senior at Woodbury Central High School where she is involved in band, jazz band, art club, speech and drama, and National Honor Society. Outside of school she is involved in Pheasants Forever and the American Rabbit Breeders Association. She has been a member of the Arlington Future Farmers 4-H Club for seven years. After high school she plans to attend Western Iowa Tech to get an associates degree in interior design, then plans to get a teaching degree in family and consumer science.
Jessica Mae Koenig, 18, is the daughter of Curt & Lisa Koenig of Sloan. She is a 2009 graduate of Westwood Community High School. Her high school activities included volleyball, basketball, track, softball, cheerleading, drill team, show choir, weight-lifting, and National Honor Society. Jessica is currently president of the Triple “S” Hawkeye 4-H Club. She enjoys spending time with her friends and family. Jessica’s future plans include attending Iowa State University in the fall where she will be majoring in Diet and Exercise.
Megan Logan, 18, is the daughter of Greg and Laurrie Logan of Sioux City. She recently graduated from North High School in Sioux City and will be a freshman at the University of Iowa this fall majoring in Cinema and Marketing. She has been very active in community activities such as the Mayor’s Youth Commission and the Teen Court Program. She plans to join the rowing crew team at Iowa. Megan has been an active member of 4-H for nine years.
Avery Nepper, 17, is the daughter of Linda Nepper and the late Michael Nepper of Oto. In the fall she will be a senior at Maple Valley-Anthon Oto High School. She has been active in softball, volleyball, track, basketball, FFA and student council. She is also involved in youth group at her church and a 4-Her for eight years. After graduation, she plans to attend the University of South Dakota and obtain a degree in Dentistry.
Denise Rumohr, 17, is the daughter of Dennis and Julie Rumohr of Moville. She will be a junior at Woodbury Central Community School. She is active in football cheerleading, basketball cheerleading, student council, marching band, concert band, choir, show choir and drill team. She is a member of the Arlington Future Farmer’s 4-H Club and plans to attend college after graduation.
Kayla Sands is the 18-year-old daughter of Wayne and Joyce Sands of Moville. She recently graduated from Woodbury Central High School and will be attending the University of South Dakota to major in finance. She was active in flags, cheerleading, dance, choir, and National Honor Society. Kayla also served as a teacher aide and participated in school-to-work. She has been a member of the Arlington Future Farmer’s 4-H Club for nine years.
King contestants
Matt Lord is the son of Ed and Eileen Lord of Sioux City, Ia. Matt will be a senior at Bishop Heelan in the fall. He is a member of the Lucky Lassies and Lads 4-H club, recognition team and county council. Matt runs cross country and track. He plans on joining the Air National Guard following high school graduation.
Mark Nelson is the son of Eric and Carol Nelson of Moville. Mark is a nine year 4-H member, three year member of county counciland two year member of NW Area County Council. Mark has attended state 4-H confrence and CWF Washington Focus. He is a member of National Honor Society and involved in football, track, and band. This fall Mark will be attending Iowa Sate and majoring in Ag studies.
Ethan Todd is the son of Stan and Deb Todd of Cushing Ia. He graduated fro River Valley and was active in basketball, football, track, speech and drama and spanish club. Ethan is a nine year member of Rock-Kee-Union 4-H club. Ethan will be attending Iowa State this fall and majoring in Ag system Technology.
Alex Ralston is the son of Alan and Diane Ralston of Moville. He will be a senior this fall at Woodbury Central. He is active in football and basketball for the Wildcats. He is a member of the Arlington Future Farmers and a member of county council. He enjoys attending state confrence . In Alex’s free time he enjoys hanging out with friends, and playing basketball.
Dylan Bechen is the son of Steve and Amy Bechen of Moville. Dylan has been a member of the Arlington Future Farmers for seven years. He is going to be a junior this fall at Woodbury Central. He is active in football, basketball baseball, drama, marching band, quiz bowl, spanish club, and co-ed drill team. Dylan plans on attending a four year college for engineering.
Tony Hansen is the son of Dirk and Barb Hansen of Hornick. He is a recent graduate of Westwook High School. He was involved in football, golf, band choir , show choir, and a member of the Iowa All- State Choir. Tony is a nine year member of 4-H and is currently president of the Woodbury County Council.Tony will be attending Wartburg this fall.
