Beer review: Sweetgrass APA
sweetgrassapa_W

Sweetgrass American Pale Ale from Victor, Idaho's, Grand Teton Brewing Co. is a very nice APA. It's hoppy, but well balanced.

Sweetgrass pours a golden yellow with a tall, off-white head. Citrus hops - orange and some grapefruit - dominate the aroma with some sweet malt notes showing.

The ale's initial flavor is fairly big citrus hops with well supporting notes of sweet and slightly biscuity malt.

At mid-tongue, the hop flavors turn somewhat grassy and increase in bitterness towards the back of the throat. At mid-tongue and into the back of the throat, malt flavors provide nice balance with some caramel sweetness providing counterpoint to the ale's hoppiness.

At the back of the throat hop flavors turn a bit spicy and sharp.

Sweetgrass' finish is medium in length, with the beer ending on grassy hop notes and hints of caramel sweetness.

Sweetgrass APA is listed at 6% alcohol by volume and 60 International Bitterness Units.

The ale was purchased at Miller Liquor in North Sioux City, SD, and it is recommended as a fine hoppy - but well balanced - APA.
