IDA GROVE, Iowa | A double IPA brewed by Tyler Aube of Storm Lake, Iowa, and his father-in-law, Bruce Hinkeldey of Alta, Iowa, won grand champion honors in the 42nd annual Schleswig Wine and Bier Club's home brewing contest.
Aube's double IPA was judged as best of the 62 beers and 2 ciders that were entered in this year's contest.
In the wine making contest, Jay Randall of Dunlap, Iowa, bested 34 other entries with his sweet raspberry wine.
Randall Rhea of Quimby, Iowa, was the reserve champion winner in the wine contest for a sweet strawberry wine.
A stout brewed by Ed Hines of Sioux City was named as reserve champion of the beer contest. Hines was last year's grand champion winner with an American barleywine ale.
Thirteen of the beers entered received blue ribbons to advance to the championship round.
In the contest's brewpub division, Infusion Brewing Company of Omaha beat 56 other beers en route to winning best of show for its Dominican Brown Ale.
Jackson Street Brewing received a blue ribbon in the contest for a wood-aged stout.
A total of 62 beers, 2 ciders, 35 wines and 57 commercial beers were entered in the contest, which was judged Saturday and Sunday at the Ida Grove Golf & Country Club.
