MAPLETON, Iowa | Authorities on Friday released dash-cam footage of a man crashing during a chase that ended near Mapleton, Iowa.
David Whitlock, 25, of Sioux City, was arrested on a felony charge of eluding, two misdemeanor counts of failure to stop at a stop sign and misdemeanor charges of driving left of center, unsafe passing, speeding, littering, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, reckless driving and prohibited passing.
Police say Whitlock fled a traffic stop Thursday morning while a Woodbury County sheriff's deputy was talking to a female passenger outside Whitlock's Pontiac Grand Am. The deputy chased after him.
The chase went through Sergeant Bluff, south on Highway 75, east on Highway 141 and south to Mapleton. Whitlock's vehicle crashed into the ditch when a sheriff's sergeant intentially rammed the back corner of the Grand Am five miles south of Mapleton, authorities say.
Whitlock and a male passenger were treated at Burgess Health Center in Onawa. The female passenger left standing on the side of the road when the chase began later made contact with her probation officer and will be interviewed by deputies, officials said.
