Choice selections from recent editions of the Sioux City Police Department's call log:

-- 5:53 p.m., Jan. 11, 4600 block of Morningside Avenue: Male driver said he was driving east on Morningside taking his truck to the mechanic when the brakes locked and the truck went into a snow bank. Then, as he was backing out of the snow, his truck hit a sign belonging to a bank. The transmission went out and the vehicle had to be towed.

-- 6:31 p.m., Jan. 11, West Clifton Avenue: Complainant reported the tenants above him were making a lot of noise. “Spoke with a female tenant who advised she was rearranging the furniture and would be a little quieter,” the log states.

-- 8 p.m., Jan. 12, Sioux City area: Alcohol compliance checks were conducted at several area businesses. According to the log, Citations for selling alcohol to a minor were issued at the following addresses: 2053 South Lakeport, 2626 Court Street, 1373 Pierce Street and 1401 Court Street. All of those addresses are local Kum & Go stores.

-- 9:49 p.m., Jan. 12, 2700 Stone Park Boulevard: Someone was arrested at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center for smoking in a bathroom at the hospital (Smoke Free Air Act violation).

-- 2:30 a.m., Jan. 13, 300 block of Third Street: Drunk man was causing a disturbance in the Stoney Creek Inn. A second call at same time and address refers to a drunk arrestee yelling at the youngest female witness.

-- 12:55 p.m., Jan. 13, South Lewis Boulevard: A semi tractor-trailer rig had its empty trailer dislodged while making a right turn from Cunningham onto the ramp for southbound Lewis Boulevard. Police stood by for traffic control.

-- 2:58 p.m., Jan. 13, Jackson Street: Woman is receiving phone calls and text messages from a number she doesn’t recognize. The texts tell her to leave her boyfriend because the sender is also seeing him, which the boyfriend denies.

-- 6:05 p.m., Jan. 13, 4400 Sergeant Road: Someone put sandals in a bag and exited the store without paying (At 6 p.m., Jan. 13, it was 16 degrees in Sioux City)

-- 12:22 a.m. , Jan. 14, 2100 block of Court Street: Missing juveniles returned to Boys and Girls Home drunk, then left again. They were taken to juvenile detention.

-- 9:23 p.m., Jan. 14, 2700 block of Jones Street: Caller suspects a male took the caller’s shoes off his porch this morning. The suspect was located at his own residence wearing said shoes. The shoes were returned to the caller.
