SIOUX CITY -- Yamaha Corp. of America donated a large number of band and orchestral instruments to the band instrument repair (BIR) program at Western Iowa Tech Community College.
The donation to the school included eight French horns, three tenor trombones, Xeno and Allegro trumpets, and other band instruments. The BIR program at WITCC is one of three in the country and focuses solely on the repair and restoration of woodwind and brass instruments.
“The BIR students will be able to use these instruments for many years to come as they learn skills they need in their careers as instrument repair technicians,” said Mark Schmedinghoff, BIR instructor, Western Iowa Tech Community College. “They will learn about the inner workings of the instruments, practice dent repairs and soldering. I am very grateful for the partnership that has been built over the last few years between Yamaha Band and Orchestra and Western Iowa Tech.”
