SIOUX CITY | Shelly Bohlke was recently recognized by the Hospice Volunteer for Care Initiatives Association of Iowa as Volunteer of the Year at the Care Initiatives Hospice office in Sioux City.

Volunteer coordinator Deb Poss said in statement that Bohlke was recognized for developing and creating beautiful one-of-a-kind crafts for volunteers to give to patients.

"Shelly has designed special seasonal gifts, veteran crafts, personalized monogrammed letters, cards, trees, stained glass pieces, mobiles, painted rocks, crosses and hundreds of various crafts for our patients," Poss said. "Shelly's dedication and creative talents have made is so much fun to be able to meet with our patients in ways that bring warm hugs and wide smiles when they receive one of Shelly's special homemade crafts."

Poss said many of Bohlke's crafts have been handed down to patients' family members to cherish in memory of their loved ones or showcased at patients’ memorial services.

"Shelly's talents and her hard work always help to make our patients' days a lot brighter," Poss said.
