SIOUX CITY – Bruce Forbes, professor of religious studies at Morningside College, recently attended the annual meeting of the American Academy of Religion in Boston and participated in a session on his co-edited book “Religion and Popular Culture in America.”
The session included four commenters and responses by Forbes and Jeffrey Mahan, his co-editor. The recently published third edition of the book is a collection of essays about religion in popular culture, popular culture in religion, popular culture as religion, and religion and popular culture in dialogue.
Forbes also is the author of “Christmas: A Candid History,” “America’s Favorite Holidays: Candid Histories” and numerous articles and book chapters. He holds a master’s degree in theology and a doctorate in the history of American Christianity. He is an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church.
