DES MOINES -- Dave Petrick, an Iowa Lakes Community College adjunct photo instructor, recently received a Governor’s Volunteer Award from Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds.

Petrick can often be seen on the sidelines at community events, camera in hand, ready to capture images and create memories — skills he’s donating to the causes. He’s helped at the FIRST LEGO League competition and the Dickinson County Relay for Life. He’s helped the YMCA, the Iowa Great Lakes Chamber of Commerce and he even takes pictures at the Volunteer Awards ceremony itself. Some of the events are short, and others last all day.

“I enjoy doing the photography and meet some great people while supporting worthwhile causes,” said Petrick, who has been volunteering for more than 40 years.

The Governor’s Volunteer Award program is in its 34th year, and just in the past year honorees contributed more than 31,000 hours of service with an estimated economic impact of more than $727,000.
