ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- The Orange City Arts Council rings in the holiday season Nov. 24 with "All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914" at Unity Christian Knight Center.
On Christmas Day on the Western Front in the heat of World War I, a German soldier stepped into No Man’s Land singing “Stille Nacht.” Thus began an extraordinary night of camaraderie, music, and peace. Soldiers from both sides of the fighting imposed an impromptu ceasefire as they played football together, told stories and sang songs, and exchanged photos and gifts.
Just in time to commemorate the 100th anniversary of U.S. involvement in WWI, "All Is Calm" is a musical theater retelling of the true story, told in the words of the men who lived it and accompanied by the timeless music of the season.
Thanks to support from The Gilchrist Foundation, Orange City Arts is able to offer half price tickets to veterans and their spouses.
Tickets are available at orangecityarts.net or by calling (712) 707-4885 during regular box office hours. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students, $10 for veterans and their spouses.
