VERMILLION, S.D. | The South Dakota Shakespeare Festival (SDSF) is seeking non-Equity performers to take part in its sixth outdoor season of free Shakespeare in Vermillion’s Prentis Park.

The Festival seeks professional actors, actor/musicians, and teaching artists from the Great Plains region and nationally to form an ensemble-based Shakespeare company for a four-week contract in Vermillion.

All positions are paid. Actors coming from out of town will be eligible for local housing and a travel stipend. We are committed to inclusive casting that authentically mirrors our communities.

Local auditions will be held Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 4, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Warren M. Lee Center for Fine Arts on the University of South Dakota campus. To schedule an audition appointment, sign up on the callboard at USD theatre, call (605) 622-0423, or e-mail company@sdshakespearefestival.org.

Please prepare two contrasting Shakespeare monologues, and bring a picture and resume. Actors have the option to prepare a song to showcase their vocal and/or instrumental abilities. Total audition packages should not exceed four minutes. Callbacks will be held at USD on Feb. 9, by invitation.

Additional auditions will be held in Minneapolis in conjunction with the Twin Cities Unified Theatre Auditions, Feb. 24 and 25, and in New York City the week of March 5, by invitation and appointment only.

For those chosen, rehearsals will take place from May 14 to June 6, at the Warren M. Lee Center for Fine Arts and in Prentis Park. The performances themselves will be from June 7 to 10, at Prentis Park.
