GAYVILLE, S.D. -- Gayville Hall presents its ninth annual staging of A Poker Alice Christmas, starring the Poker Alice Band and country singer Brenda George, at 8 p.m. Saturday.
The veteran South Dakota band, performing since the mid-1980s, will play selections from its eclectic repertoire of western swing, country, and old-time popular tunes, plus seasonal favorites.
Boyd Bristow of East of Westreville fame and a former member of Poker Alice will sub on guitar for band leader Nick Schwebach, who is recovering from surgery. Owen DeJong of Wakonda, who holds a master’s degree in violin performance, plays fiddle in the band. Other members are Al Remund of Vermillion on drums, Larry Rohrer of Beresford on bass and vocals, and Dennis Jensen of Alcester on guitar and vocals.
George, who sang with Poker Alice in the late 1980s, has reunited with the band twice annually at Gayville Hall for a decade.
Gayville Hall is at 502 Washington Street in Gayville. Seats are $12.50 at the door, or $15 reserved. Call 605-267-2859.
