Ask TV actors what they watch and, almost to a person, they'll say "Downton Abbey." The PBS series has made an impression -- one that could carry over to Sunday's Emmy Awards.

Nominated for a truckload of them, "Abbey" could come home with Best Drama Series, even though it won last year in the Best Miniseries category. Odd, right?

Apparently, the folks behind the series thought it had a better chance competing with "Breaking Bad," "Mad Men" and "Boardwalk Empire."

Will it win? That's a pretty tough crowd, particularly since "Mad Men" is edging toward the record book and "Bad" had a very good year.

In its favor? Panels of voters judge the categories, so there isn't a need to appeal to the Academy as a whole. (That's how a big show wins one award and nothing else.) The convoluted process also makes it impossible to handicap the winners.

Among the likely:

BEST COMEDY: "Modern Family." The train is still running.

BEST DRAMA: "Mad Men," even though "Breaking Bad" could break through and "Abbey" has the Hollywood fan base.

BEST ACTOR/COMEDY: Louis C.K., "Louie" (but don't discount Jim Parsons; past winners always get a bump)

BEST ACTRESS/COMEDY: Julia Louis-Dreyfus, "Veep" (Amy Poehler deserves a win for "Parks and Recreation")

BEST ACTOR/DRAMA: Bryan Cranston, "Breaking Bad" but Jon Hamm could slip in.

BEST ACTRESS/DRAMA: Claire Danes, "Homeland"

BEST ACTOR/TV MOVIE: Benedict Cumberbatch, "Sherlock"

BEST ACTRESS/TV MOVIE: Julianne Moore, "Game Change"

SUPPORTING ACTOR/COMEDY: Bill Hader, "Saturday Night Live"

SUPPORTING ACTRESS/COMEDY: Kristen Wiig, "Saturday Night Live" should win but Mayim Bialik ("Big Bang Theory") could slip in.

SUPPORTING ACTOR/DRAMA: Giancarlo Esposito, "Breaking Bad" or Jared Harris, "Mad Men"

SUPPORTING ACTRESS/DRAMA: Maggie Smith, "Downton Abbey" but Christina Hendricks is due.

SUPPORTING ACTOR/MOVIE: Ed Harris, "Game Change"

SUPPORTING ACTRESS/MOVIE: Jessica Lange, "American Horror Story"

VARIETY SERIES: "The Daily Show"

REALITY SHOW: "Dancing with the Stars" should win; "Amazing Race" will win.

REALITY HOST: Should be Ryan Seacrest, "American Idol." Dark Horse: Cat Deeley, "So You Think You Can Dance."

The winners will be announced Sunday on ABC. Jimmy Kimmel hosts.
