VERMILLION, S.D.| Dakota Valley’s boys golf team outscored defending state champion Tea Area 334-359 while winning the Class A Region 2 title contested Monday, despite rainy and cool conditions at The Bluffs.

Dakota Valley, Tea Area and third-place Elk Point-Jefferson (361) each qualified for the South Dakota Class A state tournament, which will be held Oct. 2-3 at Dakota Dunes Country Club.

Freshman Paul Bruns of Dakota Valley was the runner-up medalist with an 80. Bruns was three strokes behind Tea Area’s Brock Murphy.

Tanner Hensley, a member of last year’s Dakota Valley squad that finished 12th at the Class A state tournament held at Hart Ranch Course in Rapid City, was third with an 81. Jameson Bull finished in a tie for fourth at 83.

Jack Furlong and Keaton Hensley, two more state tournament veterans, shot respective rounds of 90 and 96.

Elk Point-Jefferson was paced by Tyler Leif (84) while the state bound Huskies also had Easton Keuck (87), Hunter Goehring (92) and Caden Stabe (98).

Vermillion has three state qualifiers in Willis Robertson (92), Ryne Whisler (95) and Hunter Lavin (97).

Sioux Falls Christian finished fourth at the Region 2 meet at 367. Fifth-place West Central (377) was followed by Vermillion (387), Beresford (395), Lennox (408) and Canton (430).
