COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa | Sioux City East retained first place in the Missouri River Activities Conference with a 72-61 boys basketball win over Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln here Tuesday night.
The Black Raiders, ranked No. 7 in Iowa Class 4A, moved to 13-2 overall and 8-2 in the MRAC. Sioux City Bishop Heelan also has two conference losses but has played two less games in the league.
Van Rees scored 22 points as East avoided its first two-game conference losing streak in nine seasons. Aidan Vanderloo added 16 points and Sam Hildahl 11 while Jaleque Dunson came off the bench to tally 12 points. Vanderloo missed last Friday’s loss to Sergeant Bluff-Luton because of an illness.
Abraham Lincoln’s Troy Houghton tossed in a game-high 25 points. The Lynx are 8-3 in the conference and led 22-16 after one quarter Tuesday. The score was tied 35-35 at halftime and East took a 54-50 lead into the fourth quarter.
