SPENCER, Iowa -- Isaiah Spencer scored from five yards out in overtime as Spencer knocked off seventh-ranked (3A) Bishop Heelan 20-17 in a Class 3A, District 1 contest Friday night.
Spencer had tied the game late in the fourth quarter when quarterback Cade Hopkins scampered 60 yards to paydirt.
Heelan had the ball first in overtime but had to settle for a field goal from Andres Salcedo.
Spencer defeated the Crusaders at home for the first time in school history.
Heelan opened the scoring when Drew Olsen connected for an 80-yard touchdown pass to Jake Beaulieu, his first catch of the season.
Saybein Clark added a three-yard run to open the second half scoring as the Crusaders (4-2) took a 14-0 lead.
Spencer (4-2) cut it to 14-7 on a nine-yard touchdown run from Brenden Ellis.
