SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa | Britton Delperdang carried the ball a school-record 45 times and ran for 233 yards as No. 5 Sergeant Bluff-Luton wrapped up the Class 3A District 1 football crown with a 31-14 win over Spirit Lake in a game play Friday.
Delperdang broke the previous mark of 38 for carries by an SB-L runner which was previously done by Tim Mahin and Matt George. Delperdang scored two touchdowns as well, giving the Warriors a 21-7 halftime lead on a two-yard run 20 seconds before the intermission. He added a one-yard run with 8:27 left in the the third quarter to give the guests a 28-7 edge.
SB-L (8-0 overall and 6-0 District) took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter on two Daniel Wright to Ty Boekelman passes covering 27 and 45 yards. Boekelman caught six passes for 97 yards while Wright was 8-for-18 for 138 yards.
Spirit Lake (5-3 overall and 3-3 District) scored on an eight-yard pass from Nicholas Christensen to Alex Skopek in the second quarter to pull the Indians within 14-7 and on a one-yard run by Christensen in the third frame.
SB-L closes its regular season hosting Storm Lake next Friday.
