ALGONA, Iowa | Britton Delperdang rushed for 205 yards and scored three touchdowns in the second half to help No. 4 Sergeant Bluff-Luton pull away for a 36-7 win over Algona in a Class 3A District 1 game Friday.
Both teams had trouble moving the ball in the first half and SB-L led 3-0 on a 30-yard field goal by Colin Margellos in the second quarter.
The Warriors took the second half kick and drove 64 yards in six plays on a drive capped by an eight-yard run by Delperdang that gave the Warriors a 9-0 lead with 9:45 left in the third quarter.
Algona answered the score on its next possession, running over five minutes off the clock before scoring on a one-yard run by Jacob Durant to pull within 9-7.
SB-L answered with another long drive finished by a one-yard Delperdang TD run with 1:15 left in the third frame.
Delperdang got his third touchdown on the second play of the fourth quarter on a two-yard run and quarterback Daniel Wright found Conner Groves for a 24-yard scoring pass two plays after Algona was stopped on downs deep in its own territory.
SB-L (6-0 overall and 4-0 District) hosts Humboldt next Friday.
