LE MARS, Iowa | Making just his second varsity start, Sergeant Bluff-Luton sophomore quarterback Daniel Wright had a big game in leading the No. 5 Warriors to a 49-12 Class 3A District 1 football win over Le Mars Friday.
Wright passed for five touchdowns in the first half, directing three scoring drives in the first quarter to put SB-L ahead 21-0 and two more in the second quarter. Sam De Moss hauled in TD passes from 15 and 33 yards sandwiched around a six-yard scoring strike to Colby Klingensmith to give them three scores in the first frame.
The Warriors added two more touchdowns in the second quarter, both coming on passes from Wright to Conner Groves covering 68 and five yards.
Wright ended the game 13-for-15 passing for 269 yards. Groves had five receptions for 111 yards.
The Bulldogs were kept in check most of the night but finally broke through was a paif of Tate Westhoff TD passes to Justin Allaway and Ben Wadle in the second half.
Sergeant Bluff-Luton (4-0 overall and 2-0 district) returns home next week to host Spencer while Le Mars (1-3 overall and 0-2 district) is at Bishop Heelan.
