DES MOINES | West put out a spirited effort getting big games from DeSean Foy and Cliff McCray but ultimately dropped a 93-86 decision in three overtimes to No. 5 ranked Des Moines North (Class 4A) in a boys basketball game played Saturday afternoon.
McCray, a 6-3 junior, had a triple-double with 25 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists while Foy, a 6-3 senior, paced the Wolverines with 28 points, a single-game high for West this season. The Wolverines rushed out to a 27-15 lead after one quarter but saw the Polar Bears regroup in the second frame to take a 44-41 lead at the half.
After the game went to overtime tied at 75, both teams scored two points in the first two overtimes before North outscored the Wolverines 14-7 in the third extra session to get the win. West appeared on its way to grabbing the win in the second overtime when Adien Belt missed a break away lay up with three seconds left.
"We stayed in a zone and they decided to hold the ball in the first two overtimes," said West coach Coco Cofield, "the teams went up and down the floor more in the third overtime and we had some big turnovers that hurt us."
Des Moines North (13-2) got a game-high 29 points from Tyreke Locure, who is currently second in the state in scoring with a 28.8 per game average.
West (7-6) hosts Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson Tuesday.
