200th anniversary

The Baha’i community of Sioux City is preparing to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Bahá’u’lláh, the Founder of the Bahá’í Faith.

Three events, all open to the public, are planned for the weekend of Oct. 20-22. Among them:

● A devotional gathering at the Peirce Mansion, featuring prayer, live music and devotional dance.

● A community celebration at Morningside College, exploring the uniqueness of the present age and the spiritual tools available to address contemporary challenges.

● A film screening at Sunrise Retirement Community, presenting a documentary that portrays the changes that communities around the world have achieved by applying the teaching of Baha'u'llah.

Fall friendship celebration

Hope Lutheran Church, 218 W. 18th St., will have its Fall Friendship Celebration on Oct. 22 beginning with a worship service at 9:15 a.m. and a dinner with special music at 11:30 a.m. the menu includes turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, sweet potatoes, cranberries, buns, apple and pumpkin pies. Free will offering.

Turkey dinner

Grace United Methodist Church, 1735 Morningside Ave., will hold its annual Turkey Dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday. The dinner will include turkey, dressing, potatoes, gravy, vegetables, salads and dessert. The cost is $12 for adults, $5 for children 3-10 years old and $12.50 for quick and easy carry-outs. Gluten-free meals will be available for the same price as standard meals. Tickets may be purchased at the door.
