The Rev. Douglas Dill of First Lutheran Church, 3601 Dakota Ave., South Sioux City, is pleased to announce a new contemporary worship service starting at the 10:30 a.m. service Sept. 10. The Spirit Connection is designed to give everyone lots of music and a message for a complete worship experience in a new way.
First Lutheran has hired J.R. Reider as the music leader for the Spirit Connection service. He brings many years of worship music experience from churches in Nebraska and Iowa as a guitarist, singer and leader of contemporary worship.
Rehearsals are already underway for the new band with J.R. playing guitar and vocals, Joey Hartshorn on keyboard and vocals, Brandon Trautwein on drums and vocals, Paula Reider playing electric cello and bass, Melanie Burwell on vocals and Tim Niemeyer on vocals and trumpet.
Senior pastor appointed
The Rev. Jim Shirbroun has recently been appointed senior pastor of Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City, by Bishop Laurie Haller of the Iowa United Methodist Annual Conference. He holds a BS degree from Iowa State University and a Master of Divinity degree from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, Evanston, Illinois. Shirbroun's previous pastorates have been in Des Moines, Ankeny, Cedar Rapids and most recently Collegiate United Methodist Church, Ames. He and wife Beverly have three grown sons.
