Ray Navrkal of Jackson, Nebraska, is celebrating his 85th birthday with an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. on May 6 at the Elks Lodge, 1001 Tri-View Ave., in Sioux City. His children include Gloriann Navrkal of Sioux City, Dave (Theresa) Navrkal of Elk Point, South Dakota, Darrel Navrkal of South Sioux City, Dr. Harvey and Valerie (Tim) Sherman of Denver, Colorado. He has seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Ray was born on April 4, 1933, at the home of his parents, Frank and Julia (Chalupa) Navrkal. He was married to Dorothy on Aug. 29, 1959, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Waterbury, Nebraska. Ray worked at a carpenter. He started his own business, Ray Navrkal Building & Remodeling, in 1961. His sons, Dave and Darrel, continue the business today as Navrkal Building Contractors. Ray enjoys spending time with family and friends and entertaining his grandchildren. He enjoys driving his 1936 Chevy pickup in parades for the Jackson American Legion Post 175. Ray and Dorothy have enjoyed spending time in Tucson, Arizona, for the past 13 years.
