ONAWA, Iowa | Police say two Onawa men have been arrested for breaking into an elderly woman’s home Wednesday morning, assaulting her with a stun gun and stealing money.

Nicholas Conyers, 20, was arrested Wednesday evening and Trae Carter, 19, was arrested Thursday afternoon, Onawa police said.

Both face charges of first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, assault while participating in a felony and going armed with intent.

Jim Fouts, Onawa assistant police chief, said the men live in the woman’s neighborhood and targeted her because she’s elderly and lives alone.

The incident was reported about 1:50 a.m. Wednesday.

The victim, a 75-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries, Fouts said.

Police executed a search warrant at Conyers’ residence in the 1200 block of Second Street, seized items as part of the investigation and arrested Conyers, Fouts said.

Conyers and Carter were being held Thursday in the Monona County Jail.
