YANKTON, S.D. | A reward of up to $6,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for an arson fire at the Colonial Inn Motel in Yankton, S.D.

The fire was reported at 1:03 a.m. Tuesday at the motel, 1509 Broadway St.

A scene examination determined the fire had been set deliberately, said the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The value of the loss was estimated at approximately $500,000.

It took some 55 firefighters about seven hours to battle the Tuesday morning blaze at the Colonial Inn Motel, which destroyed the center of the motel and caused heavy smoke damage throughout.

"We urge the public to look closely at the photo of the person of interest that was captured shortly before the fire and come forward with any information so this unfortunate crime can be successfully solved and the responsible parties can be prosecuted to the fullest extent," said Scott D. Sweetow, special agent in charge with the ATF, St. Paul Field Division.

Anyone with information about the arson should call the ATF-Sioux Falls Office at (605) 782-8200; Yankton Police Department at (605) 668-5210; or Crime Stoppers at (605) 665-4440.
