Husband of Gabrielle Giffords to speak in Vermillion, S.D.

VERMILLION, S.D. | The husband of former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is scheduled to speak Wednesday at the University of South Dakota.

Mark Kelly, a retired NASA astronaut, is giving the keynote address at IdeaFest 2013, where students present various live performances, readings, exhibits and displays.

The speech, "Endeavour to Succeed," is scheduled at 7 p.m. at Aalfs Auditorium.

Kelly flew combat missions during the Gulf War. He also is known for helping his wife after her 2011 shooting in Arizona.

David Sweatt, chairman of neurobiology at the University of Alabama Medical School, is scheduled to give an address at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Muenster University Center.
