STORM LAKE, Iowa -- Ten years after the mysterious death a child referred to as Baby Doe the Storm Lake Police Department is still asking for the public's help in solving the homicide.
The investigation has been ongoing since Oct. 17, 1995 when a newborn baby boy, believed to have been two days old, was found by officers who were on foot patrol.
The officers located the dead child in a vacant mobile home at 5020 W. Eighth St.
Baby Doe died due to exposure caused by neglect, the police department said. The child had been left alone to die in a closet in the mobile home, police said.
Authorities from the police department, Buena Vista County Sheriff's Office, and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation followed up on leads.
But the baby's parents were never located. And the person or persons responsible for the child's death were never located.
The case remains the only homicide the Storm Lake Police Department hasn't solved, Capt. Todd Erskine said.
Anyone with information about Baby Doe can contact the police department at (712) 732-8010.
