WHITING, Iowa | Two men are dead after a car accident Monday afternoon on Interstate 29.
The Iowa State Patrol reported Leon Lavern Weifenback of Onawa was driving southbound on the interstate near mile marker 115 before his vehicle steered to the left and went into the median.
Weifenback’s Ford Focus entered northbound traffic and collided with a GMC Sonoma driven by Joseph Metz of South Sioux City.
Metz had been traveling northbound. His car overturned into the east ditch while Weifenback’s car came to a stop in the same ditch. Both drivers were killed.
Weifenback, 49, and Metz, 52, both were wearing their seat belts, the report states. They were taken to Burgess Health Center in Onawa.
The investigation is ongoing.
