LE MARS, Iowa | A Le Mars farmer was airlifted to Mercy Medical Center-Sioux City Wednesday after his leg was caught in an auger on his farm.

Plymouth County Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call at 2:48 p.m. Wednesday to 14179 Key Ave., where Steve Westhoff, 54, was reported to have his leg caught in an auger, according to a sheriff's office report.

When deputies arrived, Westhoff was near a bin with a lower leg injury but no longer caught in the auger, the release said.

Deputies administered first aid until Le Mars Fire and Ambulance arrived. Westhoff was transported by ambulance to a helicopter landing zone and flown by Mercy Air Care to Mercy Medical Center-Sioux City.
