On November 28, 2017, Forest City Community School District officials were made aware of a derogatory conversation between radio announcers during the Eagle Grove/Forest City basketball game radio broadcast. The conversation was broadcasted on The Cube, an internet live streaming service that Forest City and many high schools use.
The district confirms that one of the broadcasters involved, Holly Jane Kusserow-Smidt, is a school district employee; however she was not functioning in an official capacity for the district and not performing any duties for the district at the time of the broadcast. The district also confirms that Kusserow-Smidt has been placed on administrative leave.
Superintendent Darwin Lehmann said, "The communication that took place during this broadcast is inconsistent with the policies and values of Forest City Schools. We expect all staff to hold the same values that we teach in our education system every day.”
Lehmann concluded, “We apologize that the inappropriate conversation was streamed over The Cube, a school-sponsored communication channel.”
Any further inquiries about the specifics of this issue can be directed to Darwin Lehmann, superintendent of Forest City Schools.
