SIOUX CITY -- Residents now have a place to recycle glass with the opening of a redemption center at Laurence's Super Market, 2020 27th St..

Recently, there has been no place to drop off glass due to a downturn in the economy, Ellen Myers, environmental services manager for the city, said today. Members of the city's Environmental Advisory Board researched the issue and Greenstar, a recycling company with facilities in Des Moines, agreed to locate a center in Sioux City.

Myers gave credit to board members Jean Chesterman and Stan Sherman for their leadership on the issue.

"This is an outstanding example of a community partnership initiated by one of our volunteer boards," Myers stated.

The Laurence's Redemption Center is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, seven days a week. People also may drop of returnable beverage cans and bottles. Myers reminded residents that glass cannot be placed in the green recycle bins at curbside.
