SIOUX CITY | What is Project X?

That's the code word for a mysterious development that could be coming to Woodbury County. State and local officials have scheduled special meetings Thursday to approve development agreements for the project.

At 3 p.m. in Des Moines, the Iowa Economic Development Authority's Due Diligence Committee is scheduled to review financial assistance awards for Project X, according to an agenda posted Wednesday. Fifteen minutes later, the full board is scheduled to consider approval of the package.

At a 3:05 p.m. meeting at the Woodbury County Courthouse, the county board of supervisors is scheduled to discuss and take action on a resolution "approving the formation of a development agreement in connection with Project X," according to the agenda.

Board chair Jackie Smith did not immediately return a call to the Journal Wednesday.

The state Economic Development Authority normally publicly discloses information about a company and development prior to the board considers a financial award. Due to "special circumstances," the authority is not providing such documentation for Project X in advance of Thursday's meeting, department spokeswoman Tina Hoffman said.
