LE MARS, Iowa -- A jury has acquitted a Northwest Iowa man charged with homicide by vehicle in the 2007 death of a South Dakota woman.
According to court documents, Danny Clyde Robinson, 51, of Merrill, Iowa, was found not guilty Wednesday after a six-day trial in Plymouth County District Court in Le Mars.
Robinson was originally charged with homicide by vehicle and operating while intoxicated - second offense, a charge dismissed prior to his trial, in connection with an Aug. 17, 2007, accident in which Fern A. Nielson, of Lake Norden, S.D., was killed.
Authorities said Neilson, 78, was fatally injured at 1:19 a.m. when she was hit by Robinson's van while she was walking along C-38 after experiencing a mechanical problem with her car.
