LE MARS, Iowa -- Officers cited six people and warned five others on Tuesday for train-related traffic violations as part of the annual Officer on The Train Project in Le Mars, Iowa.

The Le Mars Police Department said in a statement that nine police officers and Plymouth County Sheriff's deputies participated in the project, which was done in conjunction with Union Pacific Railroad.

During the project, one officer rode a train and informed officers located near railroad crossings of train-related traffic violations.

The officer riding the train identified vehicles committing 22 violations, 11 of which were stopped by officers on the street.

In addition to the train-related citations and warnings, officers say they also warned four people for seatbelt violations and cited one person for not having vehicle insurance.
