DAKOTA CITY | An autopsy has been ordered to confirm the identity of a man killed when a truck was hit by a train on Tuesday.
The man was fatally injured when the eastbound semitrailer he was driving was hit by a northbound train at the 190th Street crossing about 8:30 p.m.
The crash scene is two miles south of Dakota City, just west of U.S. Highway 77.
He was thrown from the semitrailer, which caught fire. A witness reported hearing two explosion after the crash, according to a statement from the Dakota County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said the man was dead when first responders got to the crash site.
Nebraska troopers are assisting Dakota County sheriff deputies with the investigation.
