STORM LAKE, Iowa | A Storm Lake man was arrested Wednesday in connection with an April assault that police say caused another man to suffer a brain injury.

Rey Jesus Martinez, 20, of Storm Lake, was charged with felony assault causing bodily injury, a release from the Storm Lake Police Department said.

The release said Martinez struck a 22-year-old man in the head during a fight in the 100 block of Irving Street in Storm Lake on April 24.

The victim was flown by helictopter to the University of Iowa Medical Center in Iowa City on April 26 and discharged May 22, the release said. Police say he suffered a brain hemorrhage resulting in physical impairment.

Police found Martinez at 507 Superior St. in Storm Lake. He was being held Wednesday in Buena Vista County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.

The release said Gustavo Ortiz, 22, Humberto Morales, Jr., 29, Demetrick Lewis, 24, and Angie Renteria, 22, all of Storm Lake, also were arrested and charged with accessory to a felony, an aggravated misdemeanor. All four were reported to have given false information during the investigation.

Ortiz and Morales remained in jail Wednesday in lieu of $2,000 bail.
