SIOUX CITY | Sioux City has tentatively set a Dec. 21 public opening for the brand-new all-seasons Cone Park.
In the meantime, Sioux Cityans can through Dec. 15 purchase gift cards for general admission at the Cone Park tubing hill and ice skating rink. The $7 gift cards will cover the entrance fee for one person to use the tubing hill and ice skating rink once during the 2017-2018 winter season.
The cards are available at the Parks and Recreation Department's administrative office, located inside the Long Lines Family Rec Center, 401 Gordon Drive. They must be purchased in person between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekdays.
Located on a spacious field east of the IBP Ice Center parking lot, Cone Park will feature a tubing hill, refrigerated ice skating, fire pit and the day lodge. It will also feature a free splash pad and multi-use trail in the summer.
Snow-making at the park's tubing hill began earlier this week. The skating rink will tentatively open in the middle of January.
Cone Park's general admission fees will cover four-hour sessions on the tubing hill and skating rink. Once the park opens, fees will range from $7 to $10 depending on the time of day. The park will also offer "cosmic tubing" with music and LED laser lights on Friday and Saturday evenings between 9 and 11 p.m. for a $10 fee.
