CHEROKEE, Iowa | Investigation is continuing into the death of a Cherokee woman whose body was found Monday inside a burned house.
Police responded to a call of a possible house fire at 463 Gillease St. in Cherokee shortly before 10 a.m., according to a release from the Cherokee Police Department. The house appeared to have been burned but was no longer on fire when police arrived, the release said.
The woman was found in the bathroom. Her body was sent to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy, the release said. Information as to the woman's identity was not immediately available.
