SIOUX CITY --  The Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach Woodbury County is beginning the process to fill five seats on its council.

The elected council is the grassroots governing body for the Cooperative Extension System. As part of ISU Extension and Outreach, the Woodbury County council works in partnership with local citizens, ISU and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Candidates for the council will appear on the general election ballot in November.

The duties of a council member include hiring county staff, managing the county extension budget and helping select programming.

The nine-member council has five vacancies for four-year terms this year. Council members whose terms expire at the end of 2018 are Mary Bertram, of Sioux City; Barb Hansen, of Hornick, Iowa; Lane Tabke and Don Wiese, of Moville, Iowa; and Denise Wright, of Correctionville, Iowa.

Al council members are eligible for reelection.
