SIOUX CENTER, Iowa | Authorities say a 31-year-old man was killed Friday morning in a collision between a car and semi-tractor three miles north of Sioux Center, Iowa.

Lucas Ochoa-Valiente, of Hawarden, Iowa, was driving a car west on 370th Street and failed to yield to a stop sign when semi-tractor driver Mark Heimgartner, 51, was traveling south on Highway 75. The vehicles collided in the intersection, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.

Ochoa-Valiente was pronounced dead at the scene. Heimgartner, of Le Mars, Iowa, was taken to the Sioux Center Community Hospital and Health Center with minor injuries.

Both vehicles are considered a total loss, the release said.
