SIOUX CITY | A gunshot victim told police he was shot at a downtown Sioux City bar late Thursday night.

Police Lt. Patrick McCann said the man, whose identity is not being released at this time, reported he was shot inside Firehouse Bar, 1211 Fifth St., but police and the bar owner have not been able to confirm the shooting happened there.

Officers responded to the disturbance involving a gun at 11:10 p.m. and shortly after officers were sent to a hospital where the man said he was shot.

"He told us it happened at the bar," McCann said. "We haven't been able to confirm that yet."

The man had minor injuries and was treated and released, McCann said.

Firehouse owner Pauly Andersen said it is "hard to say" what happened, noting the case is under investigation.

"There was no gunfire, no gun shell casings, no blood, no ambulance, we didn't even close down," Andersen said.

Andersen believes the commotion could have been caused by a glass mug being thrown and breaking.

"Everyone got cleared out from there," he said.
