MARCUS, Iowa | The city of Marcus is asking residents to boil their water as a precaution after a water main break caused the distribution system to lose pressure.
A news release posted by the city to Facebook states the break occurred Friday and, due to the potential for bacterial contamination in the water, residents are being asked to boil their water for one minute before drinking it.
The affected area is being repaired, and bacteria samples are being collected to undergo testing, according the release. The city plans to notify residents of the test results and when the advisory is lifted.
The city says it working with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to resolve the situation.
