SIOUX CITY | Morningside College has received a $75,000 grant to renovate the Eugene C. Eppley Fine Arts Building.
The funding is from the Gilchrist Foundation, which furthers the philanthropy of the late Jocelyn Gilchrist and her family in the arts, wildlife, conservation, public broadcasting, medical care and disaster.
The Eppley Fine Arts Building, opened in 1966, is scheduled to undergo $1 million renovations. The structure includes the 1,400-seat Eppley Auditorium, Helen Levitt Art Gallery and Eppley Art Gallery.
“The extensive use of Eppley has taken its toll, especially on the auditorium’s seats,” said Morningside President John Reynders, in a statement. “We plan to replace the seats and make other improvements to the auditorium, the building itself and the outdoor areas around Eppley.”
The Gilchrist Foundation last week awarded a $125,000 grant to Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools to fund a fine-arts wing.
