SIOUX CITY -- Some winter weather this way comes.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Sioux City, which goes into effect at 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon and is set to expire at 6 a.m. Friday.

Lance VandenBoogart, a meteorologist with the Sioux Falls National Weather Service, said the snow is expected to begin modestly around 1 p.m. Thursday, becoming more intense later in the afternoon.

"There could be a little lull during the afternoon, before the heavier stuff comes in later during the evening," he said.

Overall snowfall amounts are expected to be 3 to 4 inches from the storm. The bulk of it will fall during Thursday afternoon and evening, with some lighter snow showers continuing through Friday afternoon.

Chilly weather is going to accompany the storm. While Thursday's daytime high will be around 21 degrees, the low temperature of Thursday night into Friday morning is pegged at 10 degrees, with a wind chill of -7 degrees.

On Friday, the high temperature is forecast at 11 degrees, with a Friday night low of -3 degrees. Wind chill could drag that figure down to -17 degrees.
