SOUTH SIOUX CITY | Officials hope autopsy results will shed light on what killed a Sioux City man who died during a police traffic stop.

Matthew Ahlsten, 35, died of a suspected medical ailment at U.S. Highway 20 and State Highway 110 in rural South Sioux City on Sunday morning, said Dakota County Sheriff Chris Kleinberg.

Ahlsten was a passenger in a vehicle pulled over by a Nebraska State Patrol trooper about 7 a.m. Officials haven't said why the trooper stopped the vehicle.

“He did die at the scene of that traffic stop, and obviously it’s under investigation of the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office as a result of that in-custody death,” said Nebraska State Patrol Captain Paul Hattan.
