SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa | A Spirit Lake woman whose two young children tested positive for exposure to methamphetamine has pleaded guilty to two counts of child endangerment.
Shyanne Delgado, 25, entered her plea last week in Dickinson County District Court. According to court documents, Delgado has agreed to a five-year suspended prison sentence and will serve five years on probation. She also must enroll at a residential treatment facility in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Sentencing was scheduled for Oct. 9.
Delgado was arrested July 26 after the Iowa Department of Human Services had removed her children, age 3 and 5, from her Spirit Lake home after she had tested positive for methamphetamine and marijuana during a visit to a hospital emergency room for a possible drug overdose in June, court documents said. The DHS collected hair samples of the children for testing, and both samples came back positive for methamphetamine.
