LE MARS, Iowa | A 14-year-old girl was hospitalized Tuesday with suspected serious injuries after the all-terrain vehicle she was riding on overturned on a rural Plymouth County road.
The incident occurred at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday near a hog confinement along 130th Street, according to a news release from the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office.
The release said Sophia Knuth, 14, of Westfield, Iowa, was driving a 2009 Yamaha Grizzly ATV north on a private driveway, with 14-year-old Presley Marnach, of Akron, Iowa, as a passenger. When Knuth attempted to turn right onto 130th Street, the release said the ATV was traveling too fast and was unable to make the turn, and she lost control.
The release said the ATV then entered the north ditch and rolled three-quarters of the way, coming to rest on both Knuth and Marnach.
Marnach was extricated from beneath the vehicle and transported to Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars with suspected serious injuries, the release said. Knuth sustained suspected minor injuries.
Knuth was cited with failure to main control.
