SLOAN, Iowa | Woodbury County authorities on Tuesday arrested a couple in possession of a stolen car at WinnaVegas Casino Resort near Sloan.
James Souba, 23, and Samantha McCain, 20, were both booked into the Woodbury County Jail on charges of second-degree theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. Souba also was charged with possession of a controlled substance and carrying a dangerous weapon.
At about 7:30 a.m., Woodbury County Sheriff's Deputy Todd Peterson found a 1997 Saturn, which had been reported stolen Feb. 28 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, in the WinnaVegas parking lot and witnessed the two getting out of the car.
After calling in other officers, including a K9 unit, Peterson and a Winnebago Police officer arrested the two, who were inside the casino playing slot machines.
A baggie of methamphetamine was found in a pocket in Souba's pants, and deputies also found a sword inside the stolen vehicle, Peterson said.
