SOUTH SIOUX CITY - Authorities say a warrant has been issued for the arrest of a South Sioux City woman for her alleged role in the death of an infant.
Officials say Maria Dolores Madrigal, 39, was baby-sitting the 8-month-old boy at her home last month. The baby's mother says the baby was acting strange after she picked him up.
The infant was taken to a local hospital, then transported to an Omaha hospital, where he died a few days later.
According to court documents, Madrigal, also known by the alias Lola Madrigal, is wanted on felony charges of child abuse causing death and first-degree assault.
Charges were filed Wednesday, but documents state the alleged offense happened on Sept. 18.
Investigators say they believe Madrigal is now in Tennessee.
A call tonight after business hours to South Sioux City police was referred to the Dakota County attorney, whose line rang unanswered.
A spokeswoman for the Nebraska State Patrol contacted tonight said she could not release any details of the case other than Madrigal has not been arrested.
